marked the 30th anniversary of Nick Lowe's seminal album Jesus of Cool. The album, released in the U.S. as Pure Pop for Now People, marks the beginning of one of the most storied and influential solo careers in pop music and marks the true emergence of a songwriting monolith.

Tracks 1 to 11 on this CD are his `UK' debut solo album "Jesus Of Cool" released March in the UK on Radar Records RAD 1. Note: the "Heart Of The City" on the album is `live' - the single version is the studio cut. The LP was issued in the USA as "Pure Pop For Now People" on Columbia Records JC with an entirely different running order/5(73).

Lowe's work on Jesus of Cool tends to reflect back musically to the pre-psychedelic s, but his lyrics reflect the pub-rock/punk-rock s. It is an intriguing mix, and some of the tracks are classics in the minds of those of us who searched major state university area record stores for those early releases on Stiff/5(73).

Released in the U.S. as Pure Pop for Now People, the album known in the U.K. as Jesus of Cool is perhaps the best example of Lowe's quirky work as a recording artist. Basically, the only thing that is missing from his formidable output as a solo artist in this collection is his well-known song "I Knew the Bride (When She Used to Rock and Roll)."/5(74).

Nick proves that assumption correct on Jesus of Cool, a record so good it was named twice, as Lowe's American record label got the jitters with Jesus and renamed it Pure Pop for Now People, shuffling the track listing (but not swapping songs) in the process.

Released in March , and Top 30 smash to boot, Jesus Of Cool was notable for finally finding a niche for Nick Lowe, who'd been something of a pop journeyman since his days in '60s group.
